MARTHA HIGH with OSAKA MONAURAIL
James Brown’s Original Soul Sister meets Japan’s Heaviest Funk Crew.
Martha High is the ‘Hardest Working Woman in Show Business” and was a part of the James Brown Soul Revue for over 30 years. Martha launched her solo career in 1979 on Salsoul Records and has subsequently released five more solo albums including a memorable collaboration with Speedometer in 2012. Martha has also been a part of the Maceo Parker band for 16 years.
The new Martha High album “Tribute to my Soul Sisters” which pays homage to Lyn Collins and Marva Whitney who, along with Martha, were The JB’s ‘Funky Divas‘. The album weas recorded in collaboration with the hottest funk group in the Japanese Archipelago – Osaka Monaurail.
Osaka Monaurail take us back to the origins of the funk of the 60s and 70s: a flawless rhythm section, unrestrained brass riffs, tailor-made costumes, choreography set to the millimeter and kilos of sweat left on the dance floor.
